Shane won the Irish Open as an amateur in 2009, and turned professional a week later. In 2015 he won the prestigious World Golf Championship (Bridgestone Invitational), and his career highlight so far is his Major win at the 2019 British Open at Royal Portrush. He has had eight top ten finishes in Majors so far, including tied third at the 2022 Masters, and tied fourth in the PGA in 2021, with two Ryder Cup appearances also. He was sixth in the PGA at Valhalla this year where he became only the fifth golfer in history to shoot a 62 in a Major, and the first European ever to do so. This season he also had five top ten finishes on the PGA tour, including victory in the Zurich Classic in April with his Irish teammate Rory McIlroy. Now based in Florida and a sponsor of his beloved Offaly GAA since 2021, Shane made his Olympic debut in Tokyo where he finished tied 22nd with a score of 274 (70-65-68-71).
