Ellen Walshe won two gold medals at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris, taking the 400 metres individual medley and the 200 metres individual medley (2:09.81) within the same week - the finest performances of her career to date.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games she finished eighth in the 400 metres individual medley final, the best Olympic result of her career, and also placed 13th in the 200 metres individual medley and 22nd in the 100 metres butterfly, and swam for the Irish 4x100 metres medley relay team that finished 11th. She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, setting an Irish record of 59.35 seconds in the heats of the 100 metres butterfly to finish 24th, and placing 19th in the 200 metres individual medley.
Walshe won silver in the 400 metres individual medley at the 2021 World Short Course Championships, becoming the first swimmer representing Ireland to win a medal higher than bronze at a World Swimming Championships. She studies at the University of Tennessee and is from Templeogue, Dublin, where she swims with Templeogue Swim Club.
