Alex Wright finished 29th in the 50 kilometres race walk at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and was part of the Irish team that won European race walking team bronze in 2017, where his sixth place led the team.
At Rio 2016 he competed in the 20 kilometres walk, finishing 46th, and also contested the 50 kilometres.
Wright placed tenth at the 2018 European Championships. He secured his Tokyo place early with a personal best of 1:20:50 in La Coruna, Spain in 2019. He grew up in London, has a grandfather from Tyrone, and is based in Mallow, County Cork.
