Frank Ghent was brought into the Irish football team for the quarter-final against the Netherlands at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, replacing the injured Joe Kendrick, and scored Ireland's equalising goal in the 38th minute to make the score 1-1 after Johnny Murray's corner kick. The match ended 1-1 after ninety minutes and the Netherlands scored in extra time to win 2-1. Ghent's equaliser gave Ireland a remarkable chance of victory in what was described as the finest Irish performance of the tournament. Ghent was not in the starting XI for Ireland's opening 1-0 victory over Bulgaria.
