Michelle Carey travelled to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as a reserve for the Ireland women's hockey team, which finished tenth.
Carey attended Colaiste Iosagain, where she played camogie and won senior A Dublin titles, and played Gaelic football for Ballinteer St Johns, winning a Dublin Junior A championship in 2020. She came to hockey late, not having played at school, but progressed quickly after joining the senior panel. She has a twin sister Niamh, and both played for Ireland at all underage levels. She is from Dublin.
