Shirley McCay

Shirley McCay MBE retired in September 2021 as Ireland's most capped player in any sport, male or female, with 316 senior caps.

A defender, she played in the women's hockey tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished tenth, Ireland's first appearance in women's hockey at the Olympic Games. The team had qualified by beating Canada in a penalty shoot-out in November 2019.

McCay made her senior international debut in January 2007. She is from Drumquin, County Tyrone.
