Mark Downey won two World Cup points race golds in 2017, at Apeldoorn and in Colombia, and was overall series winner in the points race. He also won World Cup madison gold in Los Angeles that year and took European Under-23 bronze in the points race.
He finished 17th in the omnium at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and rode the madison with Felix English.
Downey won bronze in the points race at the 2019 World Championships and finished fourth in the road race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He is from Dromore, County Down.
Mark is from the second generation of Olympians in his family - his father Seamus Downey competed in the Road Race at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
