Fiona Murtagh
Rowing
BIOGRAPHY
Fiona followed her twin Alan into the sport in 2009 and was awarded a rowing scholarship to Fordham University in New York. Her impressive national title in 2019 saw her called up to the Irish team in 2020, aged 25. She won bronze in the Four at the 2020 Europeans followed by a silver at the same event a year later. At the subsequent Tokyo Games Fiona was one of the four that claimed that historic bronze medal, when, remarkably she raced the final with stitches in her arm having sliced it open while cleaning the boat during the regatta. Herself and Aifric were only paired before last year’s Worlds but immediately clicked and secured Olympic qualification with their placing at that event.
