BIOGRAPHY

Jude Gallagher represented Ireland in the men’s 57kg featherweight boxing event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he lost in the round of 16 to the Philippines’ Carlo Paalam – the Tokyo 2020 flyweight silver medallist – by unanimous decision on closely contested scorecards, most judges having it 29-28.

Known as “The Tyrone Tornado,” Gallagher is from Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone and became only the second Tyrone boxer to compete at the Olympics since Tommy Corr fought in Los Angeles in 1984. He won bronze at the World and European Youth Championships in 2018 and claimed Commonwealth gold at Birmingham 2022, defeating Joseph Commey in the final.

He qualified for Paris at the first Olympic qualifier in Italy in March 2024, winning four bouts to secure a top-four finish.
