BIOGRAPHY

Lee Cole represented Ireland in the men’s hockey tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

A defender and one of Ireland’s most reliable drag-flickers at penalty corners and penalty strokes, Cole made his senior international debut in 2015 and had accumulated 124 caps by the time of the Paris Games. He plays club hockey for Monkstown HC in Dublin. He comes from a distinguished hockey family – his father David and uncle Jonathan played underage and senior hockey for Ireland respectively, and his brother Stephen has also represented Ireland at senior level. He was also an underage cricketer with Ireland. In his formative years he was coached by Graham Shaw, who went on to lead the Irish women’s team to the World Cup final in 2018. Cole agonisingly missed out on qualification for the Tokyo Olympics and was a member of the squad that won gold at EuroHockey Championship II and was runner-up at the FIH Nations Cup.
