BIOGRAPHY
Leon Reid represented Ireland in the men’s 200 metres at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, reaching the semi-finals where he finished 7th.
He was born in Bath, England, to a mother from Belfast and an English-Jamaican father, and spent much of his childhood in and out of foster care before being adopted by a family with roots in the Republic of Ireland. He grew up in Bristol and studied at the University of Bath. He won silver medals for Great Britain at youth and under-20 level before switching allegiance to represent Northern Ireland, the nation of his mother’s birth, at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
He won a bronze medal in the 200 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games representing Northern Ireland – the first international track and field medal for a Northern Irish athlete in 28 years.
He transferred his allegiance to the Republic of Ireland in 2018. He holds a personal best of 20.27 seconds in the 200 metres.
