Tara Hanlon

Rowing

BIOGRAPHY

Tara Hanlon represented Ireland in the women’s coxless four at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 11th overall.

From Cork, Hanlon took up rowing in 2013 and became one of the most promising Irish heavyweight rowers of her generation. A member of Cork Boat Club, she received a Quercus scholarship to study Business and Commerce at University College Cork. She was part of the Ireland women’s four that won silver at the 2019 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Sarasota – alongside Claire Feerick, Eimear Lambe and Emily Hegarty – the first Irish women’s crew in a sweep event to win a medal at a World Championships.

The same four came agonisingly close to Olympic qualification at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Linz, finishing fourth in the B final, just outside the qualification places, before ultimately securing their Tokyo berth. She also won silver in the coxless four at the 2022 European Rowing Championships.
