Robert Dickson finished fourth in the men's 49er skiff at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with crew Sean Waddilove, Ireland's best Olympic result in the class.
Sailing in Marseille in demanding conditions, the pair held second place overall across the regatta and entered the medal race in silver medal position. They crossed the start line early, were required to restart, and finished ninth in the medal race to place fourth overall.
At Tokyo 2020 the pair finished 13th, winning two races in the series.
Dickson is from Sutton, County Dublin and sails with Howth Yacht Club. He learned to sail on the Shannon with his family and was competing nationally from the age of 10. He and Waddilove first sailed a 49er together at Howth in 2015 and won the Under-23 World Championship in 2018. They earned Tokyo selection in a competitive trial against Ryan Seaton and Seafra Guilfoyle, and qualified for Paris by finishing eighth at the 2023 European Championship in Vilamoura.
