David Harte was named FIH World Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015 and 2016, and captained Ireland at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the first time an Irish men's hockey team competed at the Olympic Games.
Ireland finished tenth at Rio 2016 and tenth again at Paris 2024. Harte is one of only two players to have appeared at both Games.
With an international career spanning almost two decades and 247 caps, he has enjoyed a club career across Europe and has served on the Olympic Federation of Ireland's Athlete Commission, and was also Secretary of the EOC Athletes' Commission during that time. He is from Kinsale, County Cork, and in Rio competed alongside his twin brother Conor.
