Mona McSharry won bronze in the 100 metres breaststroke at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games - Ireland's first Olympic swimming medal since the Atlanta Games in 1996.
At the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris she won three individual medals in a single week: silver in the 100 metres breaststroke, bronze in the 200 metres breaststroke (2:22.43), and bronze in the 50 metres breaststroke (29.95, an Irish national record).
She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, reaching the 100 metres breaststroke final and finishing eighth, and placing 20th in the 200 metres breaststroke. McSharry won gold at the World Junior Championships and multiple European Junior titles before moving to senior level, where she has won medals at World Short Course Championships and reached World Championship finals.
She holds Irish national records across breaststroke events. She is from Grange, County Sligo, and swims with Marlins Swimming Club.
