BIOGRAPHY

Jan Rossiter represented Ireland in the men’s 15 kilometre classical cross-country skiing event at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, finishing 83rd.

Born in Cork to an Irish father and a Czech mother, Rossiter moved to Kingston, Ontario as a toddler and grew up in Canada. He discovered cross-country skiing while studying Physiology at McGill University in Montreal, where he was named MVP of the Nordic Ski team and later coached it. He subsequently trained as a respiratory therapist at Algonquin College in Ottawa. The idea of qualifying for the Olympics only occurred to him in 2013, when he contacted the Snowsports Association of Ireland and quickly earned the ranking points needed to reach Sochi – the only one of Ireland’s five-strong 2014 Winter Olympic team to have been born in Ireland.

He went on to represent Ireland at the World Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2019.
