BIOGRAPHY

Marian Heffernan (née Andrews) represented Ireland in the women’s 4×400 metres relay at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

From Douglas, Cork, she is fifth in the all-time Irish record books for the women’s 400 metres with a personal best of 53.10 seconds, and was a two-time national champion and two-time national indoor champion. A member of Togher AC, she was one of Ireland’s most consistent 400 metres performers of her era, reaching the top eight at the European Athletics Indoor Championships and winning team gold at the European Team Championships First League.

She is married to Robert Heffernan, who was a four-time Olympian and World Champion race walker, and the couple trained together in Australia in the build-up to London 2012 – one of Ireland’s most celebrated sporting couples.
