BIOGRAPHY
Adam Nolan represented Ireland in the men’s welterweight boxing at the 2012 London Olympic Games, winning his opening bout before losing in the round of 16.
From Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Nolan is the second Wexford-born boxer to qualify for the Olympics after his coach Billy Walsh, and a member of Bray Boxing Club – the only club in the world to qualify two boxers to London 2012, with Nolan’s clubmate Katie Taylor also competing.
A southpaw who works as a member of An Garda Síochána, he qualified for London by winning the European Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in Trabzon, Turkey in April 2012, beating Germany’s Patrick Wojcicki in the final after a recount of the scores. At London he defeated Ecuador’s Carlos Sanchez Estacio 14-6 in the last 32 before losing to Russia’s Andrey Zamkovoy in the round of 16.
He is a five-time Irish Elite welterweight champion and was deeply disappointed to miss out on Rio 2016 when Steven Donnelly qualified through the World Series of Boxing route instead. Away from boxing he played hurling with Oulart-The-Ballagh in Co. Wexford.
