BIOGRAPHY

Sarah Reilly (née Oxley) competed in the women’s 100 metres and 200 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Born in Leeds, England, Reilly married Irish high jumper Brendan Reilly and adopted Irish nationality in June 2000 – just three months before the Games, a timeline that initially led to an eligibility challenge that was subsequently resolved in her favour. Her selection made the Reillys one of only a handful of married couples to compete for the same nation at the same Olympic Games.

A member of Birchfield Harriers in Birmingham, she was a highly competitive sprinter at British and international level, recording personal bests of 11.49 seconds for the 100 metres in 2000 and 23.02 seconds for the 200 metres in 2001 – the year she won the British AAA Championship title in the 200 metres, Ireland’s first winner of that title.
