Kate O'Connor became Ireland's first Olympic heptathlete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing 14th in only the second Olympic appearance by an Irish female athletics multi-eventer.
Since Paris, she has established herself as the finest heptathlete in Europe: in 2025 she won silver at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, an achievement recognised with the Female Athlete of the Year, and Sporting Moment of the Year awards at the Olympic Sport Awards.
2026 saw Kate reach even greater heights, winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and, two weeks later at the European Athletics Championship title in Birmingham, setting an Irish national record of 6,751 points in the process.
