Luke McCann set a personal best of 3:36.81 for the 1,500 metres in 2021, a five-second improvement, and made his Olympic debut in the event at Paris 2024.
McCann came to athletics relatively late, picking up the sport at 13 while accompanying his mother to collect his sister from training, and beginning serious training only at university. He had knee surgery for fragmented cartilage in 2019 and returned stronger. A stress fracture delayed the start of his 2024 season until May, and he secured his Paris place in a compressed run of races.
