About
The Games came to London for the third time at London 2012, having previously been held there in 1908 and 1948.
Katie Taylor carried the Irish flag at the Opening Ceremony and went on to win gold in the lightweight boxing - becoming the first Irish flag bearer to win a gold medal at the same Games, and competing in the first ever women's boxing event at an Olympic Games.
John Joe Nevin won silver in bantamweight boxing. Paddy Barnes won bronze in light flyweight boxing for the second consecutive Games - the second Irish athlete in 80 years to win medals at two consecutive Olympics. Michael Conlan won bronze in flyweight boxing.
Robert Heffernan was upgraded to bronze in the 50km race walk in 2016 after the original gold medallist was disqualified for doping.
