BIOGRAPHY

John Woodcock competed in the men’s road race at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games – a 168 kilometre time trial – finishing 44th in 5:32:54.

Woodcock had set the fastest time by an Irishman for 50 miles (2:27:27) at the Olympic cycling trial and was described as ‘an unknown quality as far as distance work was concerned.’

An injury hampered his Amsterdam performance, compounded by a gear choice that placed him at a disadvantage on the demanding course.
