BIOGRAPHY
Mark Kane competed in the 100 kilometres team time trial at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games as part of the Irish quartet alongside Conor Henry, Kevin Kimmage, Robert Power and Paul Slane, finishing 17th in 2:14:32 – almost thirteen minutes behind the winning German team.
Kane was an early selection for the Barcelona cycle, identified in 1991 as one of Ireland’s leading cyclists by team manager Alasdair MacLennan, who implemented OCI policy by selecting athletes early to give them adequate preparation time.
The team time trial was included in the Olympic programme for the final time at Barcelona 1992. Kane was described by MacLennan as competing ‘consistently, if unspectacularly’ in the team time trial.
