BIOGRAPHY

Robin Seymour competed in the men’s mountain bike cross-country event at three Olympic Games – Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 – and is without question the dominant figure in Irish mountain biking history.

From Wicklow, Seymour was a former motorbike racer who turned to cycling. He won 20 Irish national mountain bike titles – including 15 consecutively from 1993 to 2008 – and 18 Irish cyclo-cross championships, losing in the latter discipline only twice in 17 years.

It was largely through his individual UCI points-scoring that Ireland earned qualification spots at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games in the mountain bike event. His father Geoff was also deeply involved in Irish cycling, organising the National Mountain Bike Championships and serving as national team manager.

After retiring from elite competition he continued at Masters level, winning three consecutive UCI Masters Mountain Bike World Championships from 2016 to 2018. He was inducted into the Cycling Ireland Hall of Fame.
