BIOGRAPHY
Dan Martin represented Ireland in three consecutive Olympic Games. At the 2012 London Olympics, he competed in the men’s road race, finishing 89th. In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he improved his performance, securing 13th place in the men’s road race, equaling Ireland’s best-ever result in this event. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Martin finished 16th in the men’s road race.
Throughout his career, Martin achieved significant success in Grand Tours and one-day classics. He won stages in all three Grand Tours: two in the Tour de France (2013, 2018), one in the Giro d’Italia (2021), and two in the Vuelta a España (2011, 2020). Martin also secured victories in prestigious one-day races, including Liège–Bastogne–Liège in 2013 and Il Lombardia in 2014. Additionally, he won the overall classification at the Volta a Catalunya in 2013 and the Tour de Pologne in 2010.
Martin’s family has a strong cycling background; he is the son of British former professional cyclist Neil Martin and the nephew of Irish cycling legend Stephen Roche. His cousin, Nicolas Roche, was also an Olympian and professional cyclist.
