Kevin McLaverty competed in the men’s Finn class one-person dinghy at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, finishing 31st of 35 boats.

The Finn class at Munich was a highly competitive single-handed event, and MacLaverty’s participation represented Ireland’s first appearance in the class at Olympic level.

The experience gained in competing against the world’s leading single-handed sailors was valuable for the development of Irish Finn sailing in the years that followed.
