David Burrows
Sailing
BIOGRAPHY
David Burrows competed at four Olympic Games for Ireland across three different sailing classes, making him one of the most experienced Irish Olympic sailors of his generation.
His finest result came at Sydney 2000, where he finished 9th in the Finn singlehanded dinghy — Ireland’s best sailing result at those Games. He made his Olympic debut in the Star keelboat with Mark Mansfield at Atlanta 1996, returned in the Finn at Athens 2004, and rounded out his Olympic career at London 2012 back in the Star class, this time crewing for Peter O’Leary to finish 10th.
From Portmarnock and educated at St Michael’s CBS and UCD, Burrows represented the sustained commitment to Olympic sailing that few Irish athletes have matched across four separate Games.
