Claire Lambe

Rowing

BIOGRAPHY

Claire Lambe represented Ireland alongside Sinéad Lynch in the women’s lightweight double sculls at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, finishing 6th in the A final – the first time an Irish women’s crew had reached an Olympic rowing final.

Lambe began rowing at 15 and went on to row for Commercial RC, UCD BC and Old Collegians BC. She studied mechanical engineering at University College Dublin and subsequently completed an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge, where she also rowed for Cambridge University Boat Club, helping them defeat Oxford in the 72nd Women’s Boat Race.

She and Lynch qualified for Rio 2016 at the 2015 World Rowing Championships. Lambe retired from international rowing in 2018 at the age of 27, describing the Olympic final as having “eradicated all those lows” of a demanding career.
