BIOGRAPHY

Margaret Cremen represented Ireland in the women’s lightweight double sculls at two Olympic Games, finishing 8th at Tokyo 2020 and 5th at Paris 2024, both times alongside fellow Cork woman Aoife Casey.

Known as Mags, Cremen is from Rochestown, Co. Cork and began rowing in 2014 at Shandon Rowing Club, aged 15. She is a member of UCC Rowing Club and studied Sports Studies and Physical Education with Irish at University College Cork.

She and Casey won European Junior silver in 2017 and European Under-23 silver in 2021, establishing themselves as one of Ireland’s most consistent lightweight pairings. They won bronze at the 2022 World Rowing Championships and qualified for Paris by winning the B final at the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade.

At Paris they finished 5th overall, their best Olympic result. In 2024 Cremen also won silver in the lightweight single sculls at the European Championships. With lightweight rowing removed from the Olympic programme going forward, she subsequently transitioned to the open weight double sculls.
