William ‘Liam’ Redmond

Rowing

BIOGRAPHY

Liam Redmond served as cox of the men’s coxed four at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games alongside Michael Ryan, Jim Muldoon, Willie Ryan and Christy O’Brien, the crew finishing 7th overall after winning the little final.

In the crucial semi-final three crabs cost the crew a final place – the third crab, within 100 metres of the finish with a length’s advantage over Germany, proved decisive. When Redmond called for the final push in the semi-final, one crew member failed to complete the stroke, causing the massive crab that handed Germany the vital qualification spot. He also served as cox of the coxed pair at the Moscow 1980 Olympics alongside Denis Rice and Christy O’Brien.
