BIOGRAPHY
Tim Goodbody represented Ireland in the men’s Finn class dinghy sailing at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games – with the sailing events held on Fushan Bay off Qingdao – finishing 21st overall.
From Dun Laoghaire and a member of the Royal Irish Yacht Club, Goodbody comes from a sailing family with deep roots in Irish yacht racing. His father Tim Goodbody Senior served as Commodore of the Royal Irish Yacht Club, the Royal Alfred Yacht Club and Dublin Bay Sailing Club, and was the driving force behind the rationalization of Dublin Bay racing courses.
The Finn – a heavy, powerful single-handed dinghy demanding exceptional athleticism – suited Goodbody’s competitive instincts, and he qualified for Beijing having emerged as Ireland’s leading Finn sailor.
After the Games he transferred to the Star class and won the 2009 Star Eastern European Championship in Hyères alongside Peter O’Leary. He has competed with distinction in numerous offshore and inshore classes including the Dragon and the Sigma 33 – his boat White Mischief being a familiar presence at the leading Irish regattas for many years.
