To date Team Ireland has 52 athlete spots confirmed for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. For all sports the qualification process froze once the Games were postponed by a year, and all places that were qualified up to that point remained qualified.
New timelines and qualification events have been added for the sports, to qualify the remaining places. Once the spots have been qualified, there is a selection process whereby athletes are named in those spots – this process can run right up to weeks before the Games, depending on the sport.
