BIOGRAPHY
Danielle Hill made her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games, competing in the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle. In the 100m backstroke, she finished 25th with a time of 1:00.86, and in the 50m freestyle, she placed 33rd, clocking 25.70 seconds.
In 2024, Hill competed in the Paris Olympics, finishing 21st in the 50m freestyle and 16th in the 100m backstroke. Additionally, she was part of the women’s 4x100m medley and freestyle relay teams, which secured 11th and 16th places, respectively.
Hill has set multiple national records. In May 2024, she became the first Irish woman to swim the 100m backstroke in under a minute, recording a time of 59.11 seconds at the Irish Open Swimming Championships in Dublin, which secured her qualification for the Paris Olympics. She also holds the Irish record in the 50m freestyle, having set a time of 24.68 seconds during the Olympic trials at the National Aquatic Centre in May 2024.
At the 2024 European Aquatics Championships in Belgrade, Hill won gold in the 50m backstroke, becoming Ireland’s first European long course champion since 1997. She also secured a silver medal in the 100m backstroke at the same championships.
