BIOGRAPHY

Andy Hunter competed in the men’s 100 metres freestyle at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, finishing 37th with a time of 56.09 seconds.

Hunter had trained with the British team in Leeds in preparation for Munich and in 1973 set a new national record for the 100m freestyle of 53.10 seconds – a remarkable improvement of 6.8 seconds on Donnacha O’Dea’s historic 1968 time, confirming his status as one of the leading Irish freestyle sprinters of his era.
