Miriam Hopkins competed in the women’s 200 metres butterfly at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. Competing at a time when Irish swimming standards were still developing relative to the dominant programmes of the era, she achieved the distinction of qualifying for and racing at an Olympic Games, finishing her heat in the opening round.
