BIOGRAPHY
Finn McGeever represented Ireland as part of the men’s 4×200 metres freestyle relay team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where the quartet finished 15th overall – the first Irish men’s relay team to compete at an Olympic Games, and the first Irish swimming relay of any kind since the women’s team in 1972.
McGeever swam the second leg, with Ireland finishing 8th in their heat in a time of 7:14.58. He grew up on the banks of Lough Derg in Ballina, Co. Tipperary, where he spent summers swimming in the lake with his brothers. He attended St Anne’s Community College in Killaloe. His two older brothers Ruairí and Donnacha are also competitive swimmers. He set an Irish senior 400m freestyle record of 3:52.83 at the National Team Trials in April 2021 – the Tokyo Games were only his second senior competitive event. He trained with Swim Ireland’s high performance squad at the University of Limerick, where he studied Physics and Mathematics.
