Eamon McCusker

Boxing

BIOGRAPHY

Eamon McCusker competed in the men’s light-middleweight boxing at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, facing Cuba’s Rolando Garbey – one of the most formidable heavy punchers in the competition – in his opening bout. A 23-year-old shoe machinist from Banbridge, Co. Down, McCusker was a member of the St John Bosco Boxing Club.

He later reflected candidly on his Olympic experience in Barry Flynn’s Legends of Irish Boxing: ‘I was in awe of the whole event and really could not come to terms with the fact that I was there representing Ireland at the Olympics.’
