BIOGRAPHY
Jack McMillan represented Ireland as part of the men’s 4×200 metres freestyle relay team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, swimming the lead-off leg and setting a new Irish 200 metres freestyle record of 1:46.66. The team finished 14th overall.
A freestyle specialist, McMillan grew up in Belfast and started swimming aged four at a local leisure centre where his father worked. He trained at Bangor Swimming Club under coach Paul Dennis and attended the Royal Belfast Academical Institution, where he combined a demanding academic schedule with early-morning and after-school training sessions. He won gold in the 200 metres freestyle at the 2018 World Schools Games and was a finalist at the 2019 European Short Course Championships. He made his international debut for Ireland at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju. In 2022 he switched his sporting allegiance to Great Britain. Competing for Team GB as a heat swimmer, he was awarded a gold medal when the British 4×200 metres freestyle relay team won the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
