Emily Lane
Rugby Sevens
BIOGRAPHY
Emily Lane represented Ireland in the women’s Rugby Sevens tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 8th – the first time an Irish women’s rugby sevens team had competed at the Olympics.
Lane began playing rugby underage with Mallow RFC and was also a Gaelic footballer with Mourneabbey. A chance meeting with an IRFU development officer while she was studying biochemistry at University College Cork persuaded her to move to Dublin and take up a central contract with the Irish women’s sevens programme in 2018. She went on to become one of the most experienced players in the squad, accumulating over 140 appearances on the World Rugby Sevens Series.
She was part of the squad that narrowly missed Olympic qualification for Tokyo 2020. Ireland qualified for Paris 2024 in May 2023, beating Fiji in the World Rugby Sevens Series. She holds a BSc in biochemistry and graduated with a Communications degree from Dublin City University.
