Mark Roche
Rugby Sevens
BIOGRAPHY
Mark Roche represented Ireland in Rugby Sevens at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
A scrum-half, Roche was one of the founding members of the Ireland Sevens programme, joining in 2015 and participating in its first competitive outing in Zenica, Bosnia. He went on to accumulate 173 World Series appearances and score 400 points in the green jersey across his career. In 2018 he was named in the Dream Team at the London Sevens, and he was part of the squad that won bronze at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town.
His entry into the Sevens programme came about by chance – a referee who spotted him playing tag rugby at Lansdowne encouraged him to apply for a trial. A product of Blackrock College, Roche previously represented Ireland at Under-20 level in 2013 and won the All-Ireland League Division 1A title with Lansdowne in 2015. His younger brother Tom also represented Ireland in Sevens.
