Jordan Conroy
Rugby Sevens
BIOGRAPHY
Jordan Conroy represented Ireland in the men’s Rugby Sevens tournament at two Olympic Games – finishing 10th at Tokyo 2020 and 6th at Paris 2024.
Ireland’s all-time leading try-scorer in sevens, he scored 123 tries across 171 World Rugby Sevens Series matches. At Paris he scored a try in Ireland’s pool stage win over South Africa before sustaining an injury that ruled him out of the team’s final match. Conroy was born in Germany and moved to Tullamore, Co. Offaly at the age of 10. He showed early promise as a sprinter and soccer player, spending time on the books at Athlone Town and playing for St Patrick’s Athletic in the League of Ireland.
He took up rugby relatively late, aged 18, playing initially with Tullamore in the AIL before joining Buccaneers RFC. He came to the attention of Ireland Sevens head coach Anthony Eddy after being spotted playing on the astroturf at Lansdowne Road. In the shortened 2019-20 World Series season he topped the global try-scoring charts with 30 tries and was named on the World Rugby Sevens Dream Team. He also won bronze at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town.
He retired from international rugby sevens in 2025 following the IRFU’s decision to discontinue the men’s programme.
