Rugby Sevens
BIOGRAPHY
Greg O’Shea represented Ireland in Rugby Sevens at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where Ireland finished 10th.
O’Shea came through the Munster Rugby academy before joining the Ireland Sevens programme in 2017. He was a late addition to the Tokyo squad, called up as a replacement after a teammate was ruled out through injury in the days before the qualifying tournament in Monaco. He went on to feature in Ireland’s Olympic campaign before retiring from rugby in 2021.
O’Shea is a qualified lawyer and holds a law degree. He has a notable background in athletics, having represented Ireland in the 100 metres at the 2011 European Youth Olympics in Turkey at the age of 16. In 2019, he won the fifth series of the British reality television show Love Island alongside Amber Gill, a record 3.6 million viewers watching the final live. He subsequently chose to return to rugby and pursue Olympic qualification rather than pursue a career in entertainment. Following his retirement from rugby, O’Shea joined Virgin Media Television as a presenter.
