BIOGRAPHY
Geoff Curran represented Ireland in the individual and team eventing at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games – with the competition held at the Sha Tin equestrian venue in Hong Kong – finishing 8th as part of the Irish team alongside Patricia Ryan, Niall Griffin, Louise Lyons and Austin O’Connor.
He rode Kilkishen, a horse originally assigned to him for eventing by the Army Equitation School after his early years with two less experienced mounts.
From Fenor, Co. Waterford, Curran grew up at Castlewood Stables with a deep love of horses and joined the Irish Army knowing it would allow him to combine a military career with equestrian sport. He rose to the rank of Commandant. He went on to compete at the 2010 and 2014 World Equestrian Games, and in 2020 won the Horse Sport Ireland National Show Jumping Championship with Glengarra Wood – the first army rider to claim the title in 26 years and a reflection of his versatility across both eventing and show jumping disciplines. He subsequently served as an officer at the Army Equitation School, which has been a cornerstone of Irish equestrian achievement since its foundation in 1926.
