Tony Cameron was a member of the Irish three-day eventing team that finished 6th at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games and went on to compete again at the Tokyo 1964 Olympics.

Cameron rode Sonnet, completing a clear jumping round in the endurance test with one fall, and at the show jumping phase produced a clear round. He and Eddie Harty were the first two civilian riders to represent Ireland in the Olympic Games in equestrian sports.

Cameron’s Grand National record was distinguished: he finished fourth at Aintree in 1962 on Gay Navaree, leading from the 25th to 29th fence on a 200/1 outsider, placing him in the select company of Eddie Harty and Harry Llewellyn as those who competed in both the Olympic Games and the Grand National.
