BIOGRAPHY
Gerry Sinnott competed in the individual and team three-day eventing at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, finishing 6th individually on Croghan – one of the finest individual results achieved by an Irish eventing rider at the Olympic Games. Riding Croghan, who was owned by Herman and Pam Linders of Castle Howard in Avoca, Co. Wicklow, Sinnott produced a magnificent clear jumping round in the speed and endurance test but collected time faults on the cross-country phase.
His 6th place individual finish was a significant achievement in a competition that was unfortunately overshadowed by the disqualification of the team horse San Carlos, which resulted in Ireland’s team also being disqualified from 7th place. Sinnott’s individual result was unaffected by the team disqualification.
