BIOGRAPHY
Larry Flood – also known as John Flood – competed in the men’s welterweight boxing at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games, having earned his place on the team when RUC Constable James Magill was prevented from travelling by the Ulster branch of the IABA due to the ‘flag question.’
Flood had been a beaten finalist at the Tailteann Games before his late selection for the Olympic team. In Los Angeles he lost on points to Richard Barton of South Africa in a verdict that was given a mixed reception. The three Irish boxers and their team travelled to Los Angeles aboard the White Star liner Baltic from Queenstown on 10 July.
