BIOGRAPHY

James Kelleher competed in the men’s lightweight boxing at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, displaying what was described as ‘uncontrollable courage’ against the American boxer Ben Rothwell.

Kelleher dominated the opening round, carrying the fight to his opponent throughout, but as he came out of a clinch in the second round was caught by a punch that ended his Olympic involvement.
