BIOGRAPHY

Mark Kyle represented Ireland in eventing at three Olympic Games – Athens 2004, London 2012 and Rio 2016. At Athens 2004 Ireland finished 8th in the team competition. At London 2012 he finished 21st individually and was part of the Irish team that placed 5th, Ireland’s best ever Olympic eventing team result. At Rio 2016 he finished 33rd individually as part of the Irish team that placed 8th.

Kyle came from an equestrian family – his father Johnny competed in show jumping internationally for Ireland – and carved out a career in pony showing, working hunters and show jumping before moving into eventing. He represented Ireland at four European Eventing Championships, in 1997, 2003, 2005 and 2011, and at the World Equestrian Games in 1998 and 2010. His best individual championship result was 17th place at the 2003 European Championships in Punchestown. He is a three-time European youth team bronze medallist. He retired from eventing following an injury in 2017.
