BIOGRAPHY
Michael Reid was the first Irish boxer into the ring at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, competing just after midnight on 25 August at the Palazzo della Sport and winning a comfortable points victory over Brazil’s Helio Crescencio in his opening bout.
A Garda Club member, Reid’s assured performance against his Brazilian opponent was one of several opening-bout victories for the Irish team at the Rome Games. He was eliminated in his second contest.
